Configuring git

Before we can get started with Git, we need to configure it. when we create commits (snapshots), we want to attach an identity to it to know who's making changes.

let's attach an identity to our local git repository:

git config --global user.name "john doe" git config --global user.email "johndoe@gmail.com"

We just set a name and email address to our Git configuration. Now let's verify if our attempt was successful:

git config --list
... diff.exif.textconv=exif credential.helper=osxkeychain user.name=john doe user.email=johndoe@gmail.com core.repositoryformatversion=0 ...

We successfully set identity to our local git repository
